A330MRTT (Airbus, Europe)

The A330 Multi-Role Transport Tanker aircraft is based the commercial A330-200 wide-body aircraft. It has been purchased by the United-Kingdom under their program called Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft. In 2004 the Royal Australian Air Force ordered 5 aircraft. Later, Airbus received orders from the United Arabian Emirates and Saudi-Arabia. In March 2008 the British Air Force ordered 14 A330MRTT aircraft.

1. Australia
The first A330MRTT was delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force on June 1st 2011.

France initially ordered 8 A330MRTTs. In 2020 France ordered 3 more.

India is in the negotiation for ordering 6 A330MRTT's aircraft for its air force.

5. NATO pool
The Netherlands, Luxemburg, Germany, Norway, Belgium and the Chez Republic are part of a multinational venture of multiple A330MRTT´s. The current fleet of 10 A330MRTTs is owned by the participating countries. The Netherlands is leading this venture and is also responsible for the continued airworthiness (performing the role of the Military Type Certificate Holder). Six (6) A330s are based at Eindhoven Air Base in the Netherlands. The other four (4) are based at Cologne-Bonn Air Base in Germany.

KC-30 / KC-45
The A330MRTT, designated as KC-30 was offered by Northrop Grumman and EADS to the US Air Force as successor of the current KC-135 Stratotanker fleet. With a possibl
e order for 179 tankers it was one of the largest competition in the US Air Force history. The competitor is Boeing which offers the Boeing KC-767 Advanced tanker. Northrop-Grumman and EADS won the contract on February 29th, 2008.

The KC-45 differs from the European A330MRTT in that it will be made for 60% by US companies. The engines will be made by General Electric. The aircraft will be build on a new plant in the United States.
